Rheumatoid arthritis is an acid condition caused by high acidic levels which lead to joint damage. A diet high in acid can lead to rheumatoid arthritis. The buildup of acid in the connective tissue can happen early in the disease and progresses rapidly with increased toxins causing deterioration of the joint.

Rheumatoid arthritis most commonly takes place in the joint but can also attack the heart, eyes, and other organs. The acid buildup is in the connective tissue around the joints causing redness, swelling, and pain. Also, other symptoms include lowered immune system, weakness, lethargy, low grade fever, and a feeling of malice.

Foods high in acid leading to the development of rheumatoid arthritis include; sugar, milk, cheese, ice cream, and chocolate. There is a lot of correlation between rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis. Dairy products and high sugary foods lead to inflammation within the heart causing heart disease. When the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated by these acidic foods, studies show heart implications along with joint destruction.

Factors considered to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis include; evaluation, medical history, SED rate, and then the disease is assessed by the number of enlarged joints, the duration, CRP, Rheumatoid Factor, and morning stiffness (Cseuz, Barna, Bender, & Vormann, 2008).

Reducing the alkalinity in the body will reduce the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Our bodies must be nourished with consuming the right foods and minerals to prevent disease. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, fish, oils and whole grains are beneficial in lowering your risk for disease. A common denominator amongst patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis is the adoption of the Western diet in their lifestyle which is a contributing factor to inflammatory diseases. Along with the implementation of a lower acidic diet, an alkaline mineral supplementation is recommended. According to Vasey (2006), “The more you suffer from problems caused by acidification or metabolic inability to handle acids, the greater the necessity to consume a more significant amount of alkaline foods at every meal” (p.52). Lowering the acidic levels by eating certain foods, maintaining alkalinity by balancing fluid intake, and incorporating mineral supplements protects the joints and organs of the body by eliminating rheumatoid arthritis along with other inflammatory diseases.
